Cabbages & Condoms, don’t let the naughty name fool you. This place is far from scandalous. On the contrary, it’s the name of this very decent restaurant we went to during one of our nights in Thailand.
Hidden in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit area lies the Cabbages & Condoms Restaurant. It’s one of Bangkok’s hidden tourist destinations if you’re after themed restos (and really good food). If you happen to visit BKK, this is definitely one place you shouldn’t miss.
The moment you arrive at the resto’s gates, you’ll immediately be welcomed by this gorgeous pathway. The path was beautifully adorned with lights and pretty lanterns. The ambiance was perfect for a romantic dinner.
Near the entrance, customers can get some condom souvenirs for them to take home. You can get as many as you want for free. Just don’t blame them if the item fails, haha.
The further you go in, the more condoms you’ll see. Mannequins dressed in costumes completely made out of condoms were on display on almost every corner. There was Tiger Woods, the condom bride, and many others. They even got Santa!
I was totally fascinated by the craftmanship of the costumes. They were 100% pure condom. Now that’s an idea for Project Runway! I can’t imagine how many condoms were used in the making of this restaurant.
If you thought that was a lot, just wait! Even the lanterns were made out of condoms.
Who would’ve thought condoms could look this aesthetically pleasing?
Aside from the quirky decorations and displays, the restaurant itself was very enchanting. We went there for dinner so I’m not sure how the place looks like during the day, but during the night, this is how it looks like. Lights and lanterns everywhere!
But of course, a restaurant, no matter how pretty or interesting, is only as good as the food it serves. As for Cabbages and Condoms, I think they succeeded in the whole package. Their food was divine and affordable!
I have nothing bad to say about their food because all of us enjoyed them immensely. In fact, we haven’t eaten anything that wasn’t delicious in Thailand. (Don’t forget to order the staple tom yum pot!)
If you have spare time, you should have a look around. The restaurant was filled with so many interesting displays and toys (and nope, not those kind of toys). Before you leave, you can also drop by their souvenir shop. They sell stuff made out of condoms and regular Thailand souvenir items. Overall, I’d say Cabbages and Condoms was definitely an experience. I recommend this restaurant to all tourists. I’m sure you’ll have as much fun as I did.
